RPM is the backbone for our Composite Application Suite as well as the RPM/HUB, our Transaction Hub, and RPM/VP, our vendor portal. Because the workflow automation resides in a single hierarchal data container this minimizes data entry, pending, and routing on any work item. If the workflow data container and base workflow functionality is well constructed, virtually any workflow application is simply a tool to manage the work item data given the disposition of the work item.
Architecture Overview
To provide these fundamental capabilities, the RPM intelligent workflow engine provides both server-side functionality, exposed through Web services and interacted with via SOAP/XML, and a set of client components that can be used to construct both Windows and web-based applications. These client-side components do not replace server functionality, but extend it and provide inheritable classes that reveal common workflow design patterns to the application developer. Using these basic building blocks, you enjoy a standardized set of base interfaces and tools that are delivered as a part of the ICG RPM Composite Applications Suite.
